Southwood Water System: Notice of Visual Inspections

On Monday June 2, 2025, our staff will be working in your neighborhood with our contractor to identify the material of water service lines on both Washington Water’s side and the customer’s side of the meter.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released a Lead and Copper Rule Revision (LCRR) to better protect communities from the impacts of lead. This revision requires public water systems (PWS) to develop an inventory identifying the materials of customer water service lines connected to the public water distribution system.

In accordance with this new regulation, Washington Water will be performing approximately 3,200 visual inspections throughout our 126 Group A water systems of service line materials on the customer-owned and Washington Water-owned service lines, which are connected to the water meter. The addresses are randomly selected per federal law and are based on age/year of construction of the home as well as whether the status of the customer service line material is unknown. Not all customers in the Southwood Water System will be selected for this federal and state requirement.

There should be little to no impact on you during this process. PLEASE NOTE:

  • There may be temporary no-parking zones identified where upcoming work will be. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your cooperation.
  • We may perform some minor excavation in or around the water meter box in order to properly verify the service line material. If that is the case, we will restore the location to its original state.
  • Your water should NOT be affected when we are conducting the service line inspections unless we encounter unforeseen issues.
  • Although we do not anticipate discovering any lead service line material, you will be notified if we do verify the presence of lead.

Protecting our customers’ health and safety is our number one priority. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience while we work through this important material inventory verification. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office toll-free at (877) 408-4060 or by email at [email protected].
